Dale Turner, An Everyday Hero
When Dale Turner volunteered to help victims of the catastrophic flooding in Louisiana last August, he had no idea it would hit so close to home. As Port Engineer with Crescent Towing/Mobile, Dale’s always been the “go to” guy for getting things done. “When we got on the bus there were shipyard workers, managers, senior executives, waitresses, folks from accounting.” he recalled. “People you wouldn’t normally imagine doing this type of work. But we were going to help our family.”

The Cooper Group welcomed customers and friends of Cooper/T. Smith Stevedoring, Crescent Towing, Cooper/T. Smith Mooring, ILC, CSA, Cooper-Consolidated and Cooper/T. Smith-Darrow with a fabulous Seafood Party at the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans in April. Guests enjoyed Cajun crawfish, seafood and other delicious local cuisine while enjoying the beautiful weather along Lake Ponchatrain.

Specialized Rail Transport Turns Up The Heat
SRT recently handled the shipment of 20 carloads of Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG’s) moving from a Northeastern US port to Pennsylvania. These pieces arrived in two shipments and were received from the ocean vessel in direct discharge to railcars. The HRSG units ranged in weight from 260,000 lbs to 320,000 lbs, with overall dimensions of 97’ L x 10’-8”W x 13’-6”H. CTS/Mobile Rolls Up Its Sleeves!
The Mobile corporate office of Cooper/T. Smith hosted the LifeSouth Blood Drive on May 25th. A total of twenty-three pints of life-saving blood was collected. 15 Crescent Tugs Receive Safety Award
The Jones F. Devlin Award is one of two safety programs Chamber of Shipping of America has sponsored since 1968. The award publicly recognizes the skills and dedication of the men and women who are responsible for safe vessel operations. The award, which is open to CSA members and non-members alike, is presented at the Annual Safety Awards Luncheon held in June each year.
